The sustainable city is an initiative developed on a global scale by United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals 2030 on SDG17 under the Sustainable Cities and Communities. The strategic objective of the initiatives implemented in Malaysia is in two main sections.

One is to accelerate the nation's readiness to address the two grand challenges facing today's cities, namely urbanisation and climate change. The other is to support the implementation of the related Strategic Thrusts and Game Changes as outlined in the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK II) in areas of green growth, innovation and industrial development in green technology, as well as city infostructure.
