MiGHT 20 Years Anniversary
Message from President & CEO
In the years before the inception of MIGHT, the nation initiated active measures to promote and develop techno-business opportunities by harnessing science and technology (S&T). Apart from the relevant Ministry, the Science Advisor’s post in the Prime Minister’s Department was created to spur economic growth through science and technology (S&T). Hence, Office of the Science Advisor (OSA) was established in 1984.
The main function is to advice the Prime Minister on all matters relating to Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) by undertaking the following tasks, among others:
- Prioritising the role of STI for national development
- Strengthening the Investment for R&D
- Reinforcing the human capital for STI
- Encouraging STI based innovation in business
- Promoting Science Diplomacy
OSA had taken initiatives to integrate the role of the private sector in national development as well as explore the idea of fostering partnerships between industry and government. It is with this intention, MIGHT was created.
The road for Malaysia to achieve the status of a fully developed nation will not always be smooth and easy. There are many challenges that are facing us in order to achieve our goal. Even though we are living in an age of great technological innovation, higher income and increased opportunity, we are still at the mercy of often unpredictable global economic factors over which we have no control. The current volatile economic situation being faced by us in Malaysia and the rest of the whole world is a case in point.
